Experience
TESOL practicum:
During my TESOL course I taught a series of classes which ranged in length from 45 minutes to 2 hours in length. I have had experience teaching beginner, intermediate and advanced students who were aged between 14-60 years old. For these classes I created detailed lesson plans and focused on language skills such as reading, writing, listening, speaking and grammar. I attempted to make these lessons as engaging as possible and often used realia to create an authentic atmosphere for students.
English Tutor:
I was a volunteer tutor for migrants to Australia who wanted to learn or further improve their English skills. With students I have covered topics ranging from socialising and employment to health and recreation. Tutoring helped me to gain experience working with people of diverse ages and backgrounds. It also taught me every student has different needs and different learning styles.
Office Assistant:
I worked at a Law firm as an office assistant. My duties included mail, filing, errands and organising events. I developed strong organisational skills and the ability to multi task which I believe are essential qualities for a successful TESOL teacher. The job also taught me how complete tasks while working to a deadline which is important in the classroom for covering lesson content.
Customer Service Representative:
I was an employee at a DVD rental store. This position required me to be friendly and professional. I am very patient and was able to solve conflicts and find solutions to problems when they occurred. These skills would be very helpful in a learning environment as I know that each person is different and may require help in certain areas |
