Skills Profile

Leading & Educating

I undertook the voluntary role of a peer mentor which involved leading and being responsible for a group of nine first year students. I helped them adapt to their new surroundings to overcome any difficulties they encountered during university life. During my work experience at the primary school I was in charge of teaching and motivating groups of students for the duration of lessons and doing preparatory work.

IT & Statistics

·         High level of computer competency

·         Experienced use of Windows, standard Microsoft office packages and SPSS.

·         Basic knowledge of HTML web design and Mac and Linux operating system.

Team working & Communication

My previous part time work as a retail operative developed my ability to work successfully in a team to ensure polite and effective customer service which exceeded the expectations of customers.  During my time as a waitress, communication was essential in order to ensure the staff members were as organised and efficient as possible. I am currently learning Japanese and I regularly take part in language exchange events with Japanese students at Leeds whom I intend to keep in touch with after graduation.

Self motivation & Enthusiasm

Throughout my time at Leeds I have also been a committee member for Biosoc, in which I helped to organise events for biology students within the university. I was awarded and attended a place on the prestigious Gatsby Plants summer school which only the top 80 first year biological sciences students in the UK participate in. To further enhance my studies I also volunteered as an assistant in a molecular genetics laboratory at the university to gain a better understanding and experience of working in a laboratory.
