personal statement
I can assure you that I will be conscientious, reliable and hard working. In my most recent employment I only had one day off sick in the four years I was employed.
Recently I purchased numerous Cambridge teaching methodology books to help inform my teaching and provide supplementary ideas for generating stimulating debate, conversation and fun educational activities that can engage the class and add to the textbook study.
work experience:
July 2006 – June 2010 Citizenship First, 350 Glossop Road, Sheffield, S10 2HW
Support Worker
Working with young adults who have autism and learning difficulties. I worked primarily in supported living projects. We supported the clients to lead as independent and fulfilling lives as possible and helped them to gain the skills, knowledge and experience to travel independently; access employment; education; social networks; achieve their ambitions; maintain and build positive relationships with their families and relatives and to organize their own trips and holidays. I enjoyed this work and found it very rewarding.
Feb 2004 – March 2005 Guangdong Peizheng College, Guangzhou, China ESL teacher
Working full-time in a large private college teaching oral English. The college specialized in intensive English education for the freshmen and had a large number of foreign teachers. I enjoyed teaching these classes, getting to know the students and the campus lifestyle.
During the summer holidays, through a connection at the college, I taught a summer camp teaching a range of classes from 7 – 13 years olds. This was a good experience as all the children seemed to be enjoying the camp.
Sept 2004 – March 2005 K & C Training Centre, Guangzhou, China ESL teacher
Working in a small private ESL training centre teaching two adult evening classes per week. I was responsible for producing the lesson plans that built upon a somewhat limited and ‘dry’ textbook. I found these lessons engaging as the students were well motivated and enthusiastic.
Whilst at this school I was also asked to do a week long intensive series of classes for four girls aged 9 – 12 during the Spring Festival holidays.
Nov 2003 – Jan 2004 New Century English, Dalian, China ESL teacher
Working in a small private school teaching children and adults. I left because I was only earning around 3000rmb per month as the school was unable to provide all its staff with enough hours. I gained some valuable teaching experience working here.
May 2001 – Oct 2003 Aon International, Sheffield Claims technician
Working in a large insurance company dealing with miners’ compensation claims. My role was the initial processing of claims including some liaison with the claimants’ solicitors.
