EXPERIENCE: Teacher Sept. 2008 / June 2010 (Sino-Canada High School, Jiangsu, China) Year one I taught Communications 11/12 and Year two I taught Physical Education 10/11/12. I participated in all student sponsored events, volunteered at the orphanage in Wujiang along with the students, and assisted with after school sports activities such as hockey, volley-ball, and baseball. Teacher Sept. 74 / Dec. 06 (Last 17 yrs. as Head Teacher for Foundation Alternative) -Responsible for 22students and 2 staff in an Alternative Rehabilitation setting. I developed a program which is touted to be one of the very best Alternative programs in the Province of British Columbia. Many schools districts throughout the Province sent their staff to visit my program to get a better understanding as to how well these programs can operate when they are run efficiently and for the benefit of those "students at risk". See www.foundation_.homestead.com/found.html My program’s strength was a "Work Experience" program which demanded a lot of organizational skills to take 22 "at risk" youth out into the forests to clear power lines/pipelines for BC Hydro and Terasen Gas. I have organized over fifty (four day overnight camping/work experience sessions) over the past seventeen years. I've made myself available to these "at risk" youth on a 24/7, 365 days a year basis. I developed a self paced computer lab program where every student had their own computer purchased through our work experience program. Many students were able to complete two years in one with this program. I taught Math, Socials, Science, English, and P.E grades 8,9, and 10. I ran a summer school free of charge and on my own time so that students could complete their work and not have to attend a remedial summer school which many of my students could either not afford or were simply not yet prepared to attend. Re: coordinating activities I organized one of the best outdoor education programs in the lower mainland for schools which included caving and canoeing at Horne Lake Caves in Nanaimo, kayaking out of Bowen Island, High ropes course at UBC, introductory SCUBA course at the YMCA, Indoor rock climbing at Cliffhanger, bowling and billiards sessions, hikes throughout the lower mainland including the Baden Powell Trail, Stawamish Chief in Squamish, Bunsen Lake, Allouette Falls, and Stanley Park bike rides, Horse back riding at Golden Ears but to name a few. I've led over 45 week long camping trips to Tofino, 100 Mile House, Manning Park, Cultus Lake, Harrison Lake, and Whistler. -School Coaching; Three seasons of girls softball, three seasons as head coach for a grade 8 football team, one season as girls gymnastics coach, three seasons as wrestling coach, one season boys volleyball, one season girls volleyball. - 17 years of coaching soccer, volleyball, softball, basketball, ballhockey, and track at Foundation Alternative. |
