English Teacher

I am currently working as a kindergarten teacher with children between the age of two and five. I enjoy the challenge of working with such young children and combine games, songs and videos to encourage their learning. I am also teaching on the Soarer English Programme with children between the age of seven and ten. I also teach an English oral class to teenagers. During these lessons I combine both oral, listening and visual teaching by showing them clips of English speaking films, encouraging them to do conversational exercises and maintaining an element of fun which I believe enhances their learning.

Skills Gained: Patience, self motivation, confidence, understanding the needs of children concerning education and environment and commitment.

HMV Music Store, Northern Ireland and Scotland    2005-2008

Sales Assistant

Duties involved a high level of customer service, stock taking, cash handling as well as maintaining the overall presentation of the store. Working in HMV also increased my knowledge of film and I was given the position of DVD Sales Advisor, which lead to my decision to study film at university.

Skills Gained: Maturity, time management, responsibility and the ability to work individually and as part of the HMV Team.

Dissertation on “Graham Greene and Carol Reed: The Perfect Collaboration” in which I achieved a distinction.

My degree enhanced my appreciation for both literature and film. I found the range of subjects both challenging and engaging, and I enjoyed the opportunities to debate issues in stimulating ways throughout my course. The individual modules and my own dissertation developed my enthusiasms for both English and film that allowed me to research and write about a range of personal, cultural and historical topics. Throughout university I wrote for the student magazine which involved team work, editing, photography and encouraging students to take part in numerous university events. I also took part in various friends art projects, which included photograph shoots and assist in making, editing and performing in a number of short films.

I was Deputy Head Girl and Prefect in my final years at school which gave me responsibilities in organising school events, maintaining discipline and committing myself to all aspects of school life. Additionally I was part of the Cross Country Running Team, Netball Team and Debating Society.

Ÿ         Completed TEFL/TESOL Course and teaching experience.

Ÿ         Travelled throughout Europe and North America, exploring different cultures and gaining new experiences and during the summer of 2009 I was a volunteer teacher in Northern Thailand.
