St. Olaf College--Bachelor of Music (Vocal Music Education) 2007-2011
Completion of education method courses (music) for elementary, middle, and secondary grad levels. 3 years instruction in pedagogy and educational theory. Graduate of the “Great Conversation” program (an intensive 2 year classic literature course). Earned an award for an outstanding score on “The Praxis Series Principles of Learning and Teaching: Grades K-6” test. Preparation and implementation of lesson plans that focus on state and national standards and teach to measureable objectives.

Student Teacher, Jackson Preparatory School, Como Park Senior High School. February 2010-May 2011
· Student taught in a music class in an urban elementary school and secondary school in St. Paul, Minnesota. Responsible for planning and implementing lessons, classroom management, and collaborating with host teacher and substitutes.
Conductor, St. Olaf College. September 2010-November 2010
· Recruited 16 choir members, planned 7 rehearsals and directed 3 pieces of differing styles in preparation for public performance.
Voice Coach, St. Olaf College. October 2010-December 2010
· Responsible for planning and executing 8 voice lessons with a single student.
Intern, Frost Lake Elementary School. January 2010
· Internship with a music teacher in an urban elementary school in St. Paul, Minnesota. Responsible for teaching songs to children, creating teaching aids, and planning a lesson.
Teacher Assistant (English & Independent Study), Northfield Area Learning Center 2009 and 2010
· Supported two teachers at the local Area Learning Center. Responsible for observing, providing one-on-one support for students, working with small groups, and providing instruction in the teacher’s absence.
Member of St. Olaf Choir, St. Olaf College. 2009-2011
· Participation in an internationally renowned choir under the direction of Dr. Anton Armstrong. With this choir I have toured to the eastern coast of the United States (performing in Carnegie Hall, Severence Hall, Verizon Hall among others) and to some southern states (performing in the Meyerson Hall). Our Christmas Festival is broadcast nation-wide, we have worked with acclaimed conductors Osmo Vanska and Andre Thomas, and will record a CD in May. |
