As a Revenue Officer and Offer-in-Compromise Specialist, worked an inventory of assigned cases, the subject of which were individuals and businesses that had failed to pay required federal tax obligations, or failed to comply with other provisions of Title 26(taxation) or Title 31 (banking), United States Code. Thoroughly investigated each case and, depending on the facts acted as the governments authority to either impose administrative and civil sanctions, recommend criminal prosecution, or negotiate a final settlement between the taxpayer and the United States. In addition, taught numerous classes on work related subjects at annual Continuing Professional Education sessions and group meetings, served as a front-line manager responsible for groups of up to 15 employees and hired / coached new employees. Duties frequently included being responsible for the handling of and accounting for large amounts of cash, writing legal briefs for the U.S. Attorney, and reviewing / approving settlements en route to the U.S. Attorney. Interacted successfully with a wide variety of people, including small business owners, high income individuals, and government officials at the local, state and federal levels.
July 2006 to Present
In order to pursue a second career in teaching, I took an early retirement from the Service in 2006. Since then, have worked as a substitute teacher in the Granite Falls School District, teaching a full range of subjects to students of all grade levels K - 12. I have provided private tutoring in academic subjects as well as drumming / percussion lessons, having both performed and recorded professionally. Obtained TESL certification in October, 2009. In 2011, spent roughly a month living in China, mostly in the Shenzhen area.
