Employment History English Language Teacher 9/11- Present. Taught English as a foreign language at North China University of Water Conservancy and Electric Power. During the first semester I taught sophomore C.F.L, English and Business students focusing on oral and aural skills. I also taught two creative writing classes. Responsible for the creation and implementation of entire course. Created own topics, lessons, materials and exams. During the second semester I was responsible for the Universities IELTS program in partnership with Swinburne University of Technology, Australia. Preparing freshman Business majors for their upcoming IELTS exams.Once again working on communication skills using Swinburnes course materials. Worked part time at ESLI Zhengzhou. A private language school running programs to assist students in their preparation for IELTS. Working with teenagers and adults, primarily on speaking skills. The classes were small and individually tailored to the needs of the students. English Language Teacher 5/10-5/11. Taught English as a foreign language at English First, Chengdu. Worked as part of a large team, teaching children and adults. Responsible for planning, researching and providing materials for my lessons. Using E.F.s course books to provide a structure, I worked primarily on Spoken English and Listening skills. Also focusing on Reading, Writing and Grammar. Adults were taught Life Club and Real English classes. R.E. lessons loosely followed the text books provided, covering one unit a week. L.C.s were left to the teachers imagination. Children started as young as four years old. I have experience of teaching all ages and levels. Classes were one or two hours long. The course materials featured more strongly than with the adult classes, but there was still a large amount of flexibility. Besides the classroom hours there were many activities for students of all ages. These varied from dinner parties to paper mashie constructions, depending on the age and enthusiasm of the groups. I also taught v.i.p. lessons, which were one on one and individually tailored to the students requirements, be it preparation for IELTs exams, Business English or moving abroad. Manager 7/08-10/09 . Manager at The Buckingham Arms, a flagship Youngs public house. A small traditional pub, opposite the Wellington Barracks, serving a varied clientele ranging from officers and bandsmen, city and office workers, locals and tourists. The day to day running of the bar, including opening and closing, all bar and cellar duties, occasional waiting, cashing up, banking, staff training and recruitment. During my time in London I also offered private English tuition to foreign nationals, working on Oral communication, Grammar, Spelling and Exams. Assistant Manager 2/08-7/08. The Sommers Town Coffee House, a French Bistro, in the Kings Cross area of London. Working with the manager ensured a high standard of service was maintained on the bar. Responsible for all aspects of day to day running of bar, deliveries, cleaning rotas, stock rotation and customer service. Left to help previous employer open her new pub. |
