I am First-class honours graduate from Aston University having studied BSc Management & Strategy.
This TEFL position has a definite appeal for me, both on a personal and career basis. I feel I have a wealth of experience in teaching which I could utilize in my TEFL position in China. I was a teacher at my Sunday School undertaking a two year teaching course, working first as an assistant for two years and subsequently as a teacher. My role included running the classes running the class which included preparing lessons, motivating the children and writing reports to parents. Further, In my second year at university I was a Peer Mentor providing one to one classes for first year university student on a weekly basis to assist them with their degree. I also have cultural teaching experience. Last year, I contacted members within AIESEC, a student run organisation, to set up a project to provide cultural presentations to those who, unlike me, could not afford to travel to other countries and benefit from cultural experiences. This project was set up in Bursa in Turkey. I contacted other members of AIESEC from different cultures and got members of AIESEC Bursa to contact local schools where we could provide presentations. I managed to recruit six people from different countries to come on the project and create a presentation about their country. I did this through posting advertisements on Facebook and emailing members of AIESEC. We went to eight schools and presented our cultures to the children. The feedback I received was incredible; the children loved the presentations and wrote messages to us communicating their appreciation and explained how it had changed their lives. All the time I spent co-ordinating and creating the project was made worthwhile. I am truly passionate about teaching and my aim in life is to inspire as many people as possible to learn and continue learning. As Vice President of the Table Tennis Society I demonstrated that I have what it takes to lead in a team environment under considerable pressure.
Further I have worked in teams in a professional environment having undertaken a year placement for Amadeus, a global company who provide IT services to travel agents . Here I further developed my interpersonal, communication and team working skills. Lastly I was Student Ambassador for Aston University, it is my role to inspire prospective students to go to our university, through providing Student Life presentations to hundreds of students on a regular basis. This has improved my communication skills and presentation skills which will be useful when teaching in the future.
