Personal Statement
I did my English major at the University of Nottingham. I am an extremely energetic teacher and I am dedicated to my job. I have taught all ages from primary school students to adults. I like to enter each class with large smile and have as much fun as possible, whilst teaching at the same time. I can speak basic Chinese, but I am constantly trying to improve my Chinese as I want to stay in China for a long time.

Teaching Experience
February 2010 – to date Global International English
I began working at Global English from when it first opened. I immediately was hired as the Director of Studies as the investors felt I had the necessary skills for guiding the other teachers. During my time here I have hired and trained every single member of staff. I have written the contracts for staff members and guided everyone on the processes of teaching within the school.
Becoming a Director of Studies has helped me learn about how to actively plan on how to teach the teachers new skills.
July 2009 – February 2010 EF Training School, Xiaoshan
I worked for a training centre in Xiaoshan. In EF I taught a great number of different levels ranging from very basic to extremely advanced levels. I taught 11 classes different classes for 30 hours a week. I prepared a lesson plan every single class. Working in this school taught me a lot about playing games and the different activities the children can do. I really loved working with these children as they can be crazy and educational at the same time.
Teaching here improved my teaching and organisational skills. I love teaching the kids here as it helped so much. I also contributed to marketing activities, demos, camping trips and the Christmas show.
September 2008 – June 2009 Xiuhu Middle School, Yiwu, Zhejiang
I worked for Xiuhu Middle School when I arrived in China. I was a grade 7 teacher so I was teaching 13 – 14 year olds. There were 55 students per class. The lessons were 40 minutes long and I had to prepare 1 lesson plan for the whole week. My lesson plan was generally a PowerPoint presentation. I had to use PowerPoint as I have no teaching assistant in any of my classes so visual aids are a necessity.
I enjoy working with the children as at times they can be incredibly funny and are always surprising me. They are also the very enthusiastic to learn.
December 2008 – to June 2009 Modern English, Yiwu, Zhejiang
I worked 3 nights a week for Modern English. I taught intermediate business English to adults. There is between 5 and 15 students per class. The lessons are 2 hours long and I had to prepare a new lesson plan for each lesson. I had a textbook to work from but I still preferred to prepare a more involved and exciting lesson plan. The English I generally taught is trade English as Yiwu is a trade town. I varied my lessons but I kept the focus on trade as all my students are working for trade companies.
Working with adults is a lot of fun as their spoken English topics can be quite diverse. They are all employed and like discussing with me my previous 6 years working in England. Sometimes it is difficult to keep the lesson on track as they like hearing about my experiences more than working themselves.
Spring Festival 2009 Li Yang Crazy English Winter Camp
During the 2009 Spring Festival I worked for Li Yang Crazy English in a Winter Camp. It was an English training course for children to young adults. There were 5 different camps all ranging from different ages, the lowest age group being 4 – 8 and the highest being 17 – 20. I was given a different work book to work from for each camp but still make up lesson plans and games for the students. I was also asked to do 2 presentations for the Winter Camp as part of their New Year celebrations. |
